OSWEGO, NY (10/31/2011)(readMedia)-- Harold Furrer of Lindenhurst, a 1965 graduate of the State University of New York at Oswego, will be honored for his achievements in wrestling.
Furrer will be inducted into the Oswego Athletic Hall of Fame Saturday, Nov. 12, in the Hewitt Union Ballroom on the SUNY Oswego campus. The Oswego Alumni Association will sponsor a 12:30 p.m. reception and 1 p.m. luncheon -- reservation deadline is Nov. 4 -- and the college will recognize the inductees at a 7 p.m. men's ice hockey game in the Campus Center arena.
Furrer wrestled from 1961 to 1965, serving as captain for two years. Furrer was a SUNY champion in the 130-pound weight class for three years and a Section 8 champion in 1961. He qualified for the NCAA tournament in 1964 and 1965.
A science teacher for three decades, Furrer has been a coach for more than 25 years and served as a wrestling referee in Nassau and Suffolk counties for 15 years.
The cost of the Athletic Hall of Fame reception is $25 per person. Donors are encouraged to sponsor student athletes to attend the luncheon. Attendees can RSVP by Nov. 4 at oswego.edu/alumni or by calling 315-312-2258.
