CHARLESTON, WV (02/27/2011)(readMedia)-- The University of Charleston's senior guard Lindsey Kentner (Wapakoneta, Ohio/Wapakoneta) has been named the WVIAC's Player of the Year, as voted on by the league coaches.

Kentner, who was recently a first-team academic All-America selection, played a vital role as UC reeled off 11 consecutive wins during a 35-day span, helping the squad move from a 9-4 mark to 20-4. The run propelled the Golden Eagles into first place of the league. In a tight race, Kentner propelled head coach Sherry Winn's team to a regular-season title with a win over WV State in the regular-season finale.

Kentner picked up two Co-Player of the Week honors on the season. She finished tied for second in the conference with 19.5 points per game. Kentner netted 52.9 percent of her shots on the season, ranking fifth in the league in field goal percentage. Kentner topped the league in free throw percentage (87.5 percent) and steals per game (2.86). She ranked third in the league in three-point field goal percentage (43.6 percent) and assist/turnover ratio (1.81) and fourth in three-point field goals made (2.82/game). Despite being a guard, Kentner was 10th in the WVIAC in blocked shots (1.14/game). An unselfish player, she was 13th in the league in assists per game (3.43).

West Virginia State forward Chelsey Davis has been tabbed the conference's Freshman of the Year while Seton Hill's Ferne Labati has earned Coach of the Year accolades.

Kentner and the Golden Eagles defeated rival WV State 88-59 on Saturday to win the West Virginia Conference regular season championship earning a bye in the first round of the WVIAC tournament.
