Littauer surgeon presents at one of the largest surgical conferences in the world

GLOVERSVILLE, NY (12/02/2013)(readMedia)-- Recently, Bennet Togbe, MD of Nathan Littauer Family of Health Services was a session faculty/speaker at the 2013 Clinical Congress of the American College of Surgeons-one of the largest international meetings of surgeons in the world. The conference convened Oct. 6 through 13, in Washington, DC at the Washington Marriot Wardman and the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. The conference included scientific panel sessions, postgraduate courses, as well as scientific poster presentations and technical exhibits.

Dr. Togbe is a Board-certified surgeon who started practicing at Littauer on July 15, 2013, and is specializing in minimally invasive surgeries delivered a presentation on "Minimally-invasive rejection of Retroperitoneal Tumor."

As a result, Dr. Togbe is well versed in general surgery and minimally-invasive surgery, including endoscopy and bariatrics. He completed his residency at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, affiliation at Harlem Hospital Center in New York City, and his Minimally Invasive Surgery /Bariatric Fellowship at New York Medical College (Valhalla) GME Consortium. Dr. Togbe's rotations have included transplant surgery and, surgical oncology rotations at Columbia University Presbyterian Hospital and at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center respectively.

His clinical expertise has earned him accolades including: An award in 2012 for "exemplary professional competency and compassion in patient care" from the Department of Surgery at Columbia University at Harlem Hospital; The Jim Nwobodo prize for Best Paper by a graduating Fellow at the 49th Annual Conference at the West African College of Surgeons; the VALCO Trust Fund Award which funded an rotation for Internal Medicine at the University of Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine, UK.

He proudly serves as a member of the American Medical Association is a candidate member for the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), is a Fellow at the West African College of Surgeons and an Associate Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

He is well published on subjects ranging from Laparoscopic Splenectomy in Blunt Abdominal Trauma, Pelvic Adhesions, External Hernias, and Waiting Time and Client Opinions at the Surgical Emergency Unit.

Dr. Togbe has had a longstanding track record of leadership and service. He served as the National President of the Federation of Ghana Medical Students Association and spearheaded a program to donate medical education resources to underserved countries.

Medicine has been a part of Dr. Togbe's life. Growing up in Ghana, his father was a doctor with a family practice, and his mother was a nurse. He is dually certified as a surgeon in Ghana, and again was certified in the U.S. He moved to Johnstown, New York with his wife and three children, and enjoys the area. Dr. Togbe said he feels becoming a part of the Nathan Littauer Family of Health Services was simply a "perfect fit" for him to establish a practice, and has much confidence in his Littauer support staff.
