Littauer's THE EVENT 2010 Explores the Exotic
Supporters Will Journey Down the Nile Under a Suradeq Without Even Leaving Johnstown
GLOVERSVILLE, NY (05/07/2010)(readMedia)-- The Foundation for Nathan Littauer Hospital has announced their plans for the 8th annual "EVENT", a yearly fundraising gala supporting the hospital. THE EVENT will be held May 21, 2010 from 7-11 pm. This year, supporters will be treated to "A Journey Along The Nile", in an extravagant setting under a suradeq (Arabic for tent). "A huge tent will be transformed into an Egyptian palace, immersing party goers with the sights, sounds and flavors of Egypt." stated Cheryl Horowitz, THE EVENT Chair. "We have had some exciting themes in the past but I think this year will be over the top." added Susan Kiernan, Vice President of Development for Littauer. She explained, "Simply put, it is a great party for a great cause."
The Foundation will be providing food and entertainment designed to compliment the luxurious setting. The tent will be next to Ruby and Quiri, on Route 30A in Johnstown. People are encouraged to wear dessert garb. According to event planners, there will be lounges and private tents and the entire venue will be accented with the colors, fabrics, and tastes of the exotic.
THE EVENT is a unique yearly gala, raising money to support the Hospital. Hundreds of people attend to support the cause, and in turn are treated to great music and entertainment. Every year THE EVENT features a different theme. Past themes have included: New York, New York, The Great Gatsby, An Evening on the Orient Express, and The Era of the Great Adirondack Camps. "And responses to THE EVENT are always extremely positive. Last year one attendee told us "This is the best event in our area, and the food was amazing!" stated Cheryl Horowitz.
"THE EVENT is not only a good party it is apparently a great regional success." explained Laurence E. Kelly, Nathan Littauer Hospital's CEO and President. This year, THE EVENT was ranked by the Capital District Business Review's Book of Lists as The 25th Most Profitable One-day Fundraising Event. He added, "We are proud of that distinction, however I can tell you that almost a full year's-worth of planning goes into THE EVENT. And we are always thrilled with the community's response to this gala." Proceeds from THE EVENT go directly to the hospital, helping to buy equipment and medical supplies for physicians and staff to continually improve patient care.
New this year, THE EVENT will offer a discount to young people in a category deemed "Aspiring Patron". "We wanted younger professionals to experience THE EVENT and to learn about the hospital in the process." Cheryl Horowitz said. "Aspiring patron" tickets are $75.00 and "Loyal Supporters" ticket prices are $125.00. "Super Patrons" tickets are $250.00. Also new this year, The Foundation is offering silent auctions to the entire community via the web. "Every year we have extraordinary raffles and auction items." stated Susan Kiernan. "This year will be no different. However, this year we are offering the items through the web and our Face Book page. Our staff will act as buyers for anyone from anywhere who would like to bid on the items. I think that is exciting."
Also new this year, the silent auction items and the raffle items will be available to all through the World Wide Web. "We are using the power of our website and Facebook to raise money for our hospital." stated Susan Kiernan. Adding, "We did not want to limit the items to just the attendees and employees this year." To see the items log on to http://www.nlh.org/nlhblog/nlh-photo-gallery for an online catalogue.
"Every year we are so grateful for the support we receive from the community." Susan Kiernan said. "It is more than a party; it is simply a great cause."
