Little Chocolate Chip Cookies Win Centerville Baker a Big State Fair Prize

DES MOINES, IA (08/11/2018) (readMedia)-- Olive Jean Tarbell of Centerville won first place and a $500 cash award in the Mom's Perfect Little Cookie competition judged Thursday at the 2018 Iowa State Fair.

Robin Tarbell-Thomas of Centerville claimed second place and $100.

Linda Anderson of Urbandale earned Third place.

Judges also awarded Honorable Mention to Marianne Carlson of Jefferson.

Contestants were tasked with creating small, dainty, extremely uniform chocolate chip cookies.

Entries were judged on flavor and appearance.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 171 divisions, 727 classes and over 9,856 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
