Local Administrator Honored For Oustanding Leadership In Education

ALBANY, NY (04/08/2008)(readMedia)-- Dr. Santo Barbarino, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction at the Lynbrook Union Free School District in Lynbrook, NY, has been selected as the 2008 New York State Outstanding Educator by the School Administrators Association of New York State (SAANYS).
This award is given annually to a SAANYS member who has made outstanding contributions in New York State schools through public education, professional organizations, and research and/or writing in the field of education.
Barbarino, a longtime veteran in the field of education, has held various teaching and administrative positions and has made many contributions to the profession along the way. After teaching chemistry at Lynbrook High School for four years (1980-84), his leadership and talents were recognized and he was named administrative assistant for instruction. In 1986, Barbarino was appointed high school principal and in 2006 was appointed to his current position.
Barbarino’s dedication to current and past students is cited n a letter of recommendation. [Barbarino] “is known for keeping in contact with those he has taught and supervised. When attending SAANYS Government Relations Committee meetings in Albany, he will stop by SUNY Albany to catch up with Lynbrook graduates.”
Barbarino is an active, longtime member of SAANYS and is actively involved with the Government Relations Committee where he consistently provides valuable insight and leadership to the group. He has received several professional awards, is a member of the Commissioner’s Blue Ribbon Panel on School Leadership, and has served the educational community as an officer in several professional associations.
Barbarino will be honored for his accomplishments at an awards ceremony on May 9, 2008 at the Gideon Putnam Hotel in Saratoga Springs, New York.

As a professional association, SAANYS is committed to provide direction, service, and support to the membership in their efforts to improve the quality of education and leadership in New York State schools. SAANYS is affiliated with the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP), and the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).
