Local Administrator Honored as Assistant Principal of the Year
ALBANY, NY (02/05/2008)(readMedia)-- Ms. Tracy C. DelGrego, academy director at East High School in the Rochester City School District, has been selected as the 2008 Assistant Principal of the Year by the School Administrators Association of New York State (SAANYS).
This award is given to an assistant principal in recognition of their varied, complex, and challenging role. It celebrates successes in working with students, staff, and parents to assure quality education. The McDonald’s Corporation, in cooperation with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, also sponsors this award.
Ms. DelGrego has served as academy director at East High, an urban school with nearly 2,000 seventh- through twelfth-grade students, since 2002 and has a total of 23 years of experience in the field of education. In the Rochester City School District, academy directors serve in a similar capacity as assistant principals in other districts. Prior to her move into administration, she served as a special education teacher of students with severe disabilities and as coordinator of special programs.
In her letter of support for Ms. DelGrego’s nomination for this award, Kathleen F. Lamb, principal of East High School, stated, “What enables Tracy to be successful in whatever she undertakes is her ability to motivate others with whom she works. She has tremendous vision and follow-through. She models her beliefs and enables others to excel by providing opportunities for meaningful professional development.” This sentiment is reiterated by several others with whom Ms. DelGrego works, including teachers and coordinators. Gary Genthner, a teacher at East High, says of Ms. DelGrego, “She sets the bar high – excellence in instruction and student support is the expectation. In order to accomplish this goal, Ms. DelGrego works directly with staff, students, and parents . . . [her] management style of information sharing and collegiality is respected by not only special education teachers, but by administrators, core subject teachers, and support staff as well.”
SAANYS represents over 6,500 school principals, supervisors, and directors. As a professional association, SAANYS is committed to providing direction, service, and support to the membership in their efforts to improve the quality of education and leadership in New York State schools.
