Local College Student Billy Morgan Honored by MIAC as Defensive Player of the Week

SAINT PAUL, MN (09/27/2011)(readMedia)-- Bethel University senior Billy Morgan of Rosemount, Minn., was named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Defensive Player of the Week for his role in the Royals football team's win over Carleton College on Saturday, September 17. Morgan has been one of the catalysts for the Bethel Royals vaunted defensive unit, and he was at his best with the 27-9 win over Carleton.

Morgan was practically a one-man wrecking crew for the Royals defense against the Knights. He made 17 total tackles, including an incredible 13 solo tackles, with one tackle-for-a-loss, one sack, and an interception. Morgan was Bethel's leading tackler in 2010, and is on pace to lead the team again this season with an average of 11 tackles per game. Bethel entered the game against Carleton with the fourth-best defense in Division III, and it has not allowed a team to rush for more than 135 yards in 14 straight regular season games. Morgan leads the MIAC's top scoring defense (3.0 points per game) and total defense (155 yards per game).
