EMMITSBURG, MD (07/31/2013)(readMedia)-- Emmitsburg, Maryland – Mount St. Mary's University congratulates TySean Ellerbe, C '13 for receiving the Perseverance Award from the D.C. College Access Program. TySean graduated with a business degree from the Mount Bolte School of Business and was honored at a banquet this spring as a D.C. College Access Program success story.
The Perseverance Award honors a scholar who has faced and overcome academic, personal, or financial adversity during the course of their undergraduate work. While at the Mount, TySean experienced the loss of 3 members of his close family.
"The experience of being selected to receive the perseverance from DCCAP was both humbling and exciting. As they read my accolades for being selected a feeling of accomplishment completely overwhelmed me. It was truly amazing," said TySean. He also explained gaining a degree from the Mount prepared him for his move into his professional life, "I gained an immense amount of knowledge in the field of Marketing and believe myself to be fully capable of flourishing in society."
TySean graduated from the SEED School of Washington D.C. – a public college-prep boarding school in 2009. His younger brother T.J. graduated from the Seed School in 2013 and plans to follow his brother's footsteps and head to the Mount for his undergraduate education.
Founded in 1808, Mount St. Mary's University is the nation's second oldest Catholic university. The Mount is rated in the top 25 Catholic universities in America as one of the most "Faithful and Affordable."
