AIKEN, SC (09/17/2018) The University of South Carolina Aiken Office of Career Services gave local businesses and students a boost to their employment needs.

On the very first day of class, Career Services hosted an Internship and Part-Time Job Expo. Several local employers looking for talented, committed employees attended in hopes of possibly hiring Pacers.

"We hold the expo annually to assist local employers with their hiring needs and to support students in gaining real-world experience while also earning a paycheck," said Kathryn McGlynn, coordinator for experiential learning at USC Aiken.

"It's a win-win opportunity."

She says the expo takes place so early in the semester because students come back to campus ready to work and get experience related to their career goals.

"I think it was very well attended and had many students actively seeking internships. That impressed me," said Sam Radford, recreation supervisor for Hopelands Gardens and Rye Patch Reception Center.

Other employers who participated included: Enterprise Holdings, Best Lawyers, The Quest Zone, ADP, the S.C. Department of Juvenile Justice, Lower Savannah Council of Governments, Chick-fil-A, Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, the City of Aiken, Dunkin Donuts, Moulton's Landscaping, the Tri-Development Center of Aiken County, Target, and the Peach Belt Conference.

"Our employer partners can draw from a talented candidate pool at USC Aiken. In addition to hiring qualified employees, attendees have an opportunity to meet many candidates in person and in one place," McGlynn said.
