Local Resident Spent Summer Interning with the J.M. Smucker Company

ASHLAND, OH (09/19/2012)(readMedia)-- Painesville resident Michael Mayer, who is an accounting major at Ashland University, interned this summer at The J.M. Smucker Co. in Orrville, OH.

Mayer is the son of Bill and Melissa Mayer of Painesville. He is a 2010 graduate of Riverside High School.

As an intern at The J.M. Smucker Co. Mayer was able to gain real world accounting experience through his monthly duties such as calculating EU production volume, journal entries for mold amortization, stnd-to-stnd revaluation, balance sheet reconciliation, calculating how much sugar is exported to Canada, and building the Cost of Inventory report in Excel.

Along with Mayer's monthly duties he also was able to accomplish a few major projects with the company. "I worked on a distribution allocation, which is a projection of distribution expense percentages that will be allocated to each SBA. I also did an accelerated amortization of all the new assets acquired through SaraLee, as well as write scripts that automate processes and perform them much faster," said Mayer.

Mayer describes The J.M. Smucker Co as a fantastic place to work. "The people there have great work ethic and are always kind and willing to help. It isn't just some of the people, but almost every single person is extremely nice, smart, and hard working. This creates an environment that is very productive, as well as enjoyable and sociable," said Mayer.

When asked if this internship change his career plans Mayer responded, "They definitely didn't change them. If anything, they have just confirmed that accounting is what I want to do with my life."
