Local Resident to be Honored at Annual Reinhardt University Awards Gala

WALESKA, GA (03/13/2013)(readMedia)-- Dr. Telisha Dionne Bailey, a resident of Oxford, Miss., will be honored as a 10 Under 10 during Reinhardt University's Talon Awards Gala on March 21, 2013, at Northside United Methodist Church in Atlanta, Ga. This annual event honors distinguished alumni and dedicated members of the Reinhardt family.

10 under 10 Description

Each year Reinhardt University recognizes a group of 10 alumni from the last 10 years (2002 - 2012) who have been successful in business, the military, nonprofits, government, and/or the arts. These alumni are recognized at the annual Talon Awards Gala in March. A picture identifying each will hang in the Student Center as a reminder of what Reinhardt alumni have accomplished.

Dr. Telisha Dionne Bailey '03 Background

Dr. Telisha Dionne Bailey graduated from Reinhardt University in 2003 with a Liberal Studies degree focusing in history. After graduating from Reinhardt, she earned a Master's degree in history and went on to earn her Doctorate from the Department of History at the University of Mississippi in the spring of 2013. During these years, she served on the Chancellors Commission on the Status of Women, held the title of the Graduate Women's Director for the Graduate Student Council, served two terms as the president of the Black Graduate Professional Student Association and received the Georgia Nix Miller Activism Award given by the Sarah Isom Center. Dionne's graduate and professional work centers on gender, race, feminism, and the southern penal system.

After pursuing a postdoctoral fellowship, Dionne plans to enter law school in the fall of 2014 to earn a degree in public interest law. Her career goals include teaching at a university with a joint appointment in history and law. She also intends to start a nonprofit that will work to help women transitioning out of prison. Dionne wants to inspire young African American women not only to love themselves but also to see how much they have to offer this world.
