Local Residents Recognized at University of Scranton Commencement

SCRANTON, PA (06/18/2012)(readMedia)-- Adam Joseph Gault, Christina Lennon and Vanessa M. Relvas, Philadelphia, were among the 65 students honored by The University of Scranton during its undergraduate Class Night ceremony. The Jesuit university awarded outstanding members of the Class of 2012 for academic achievement and service.
Gault received the Undergraduate Alumni Loyalty and Service Award. He earned a bachelor of arts, cum laude, with a double major in communication and political science and graduated from the Honors Program.
Gault was a member of the Pi Sigma Alpha and Lambda Pi Eta honor societies. He served on student government in several roles, including president in 2011 – 2012. He participated in the International Service Program through University Ministries, served as leader of Freshman Involved in Service Together, attended the National Jesuit Student Leadership Conference in New York City, was a President's Alumni Liaison and a member of the 2012 Class Committee and Students in Free Enterprise.
Gault plans to seek employment in politics, communication or higher education.
He graduated from Roman Catholic High School, Philadelphia.
Lennon received the Excellence in Elementary/Special Education Award. She earned a bachelor of science, summa cum laude, in elementary/special education.
Lennon was a member of the Alpha Sigma Nu and Kappa Delta Pi honor societies. She was co-president of the Council Of Exceptional Children and received the Frank O'Hara Award. She also taught the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine at Immaculate Conception Parish, mentored through Emergency Aid of Pennsylvania and volunteered in the District of Philadelphia Schools.
Lennon plans to teach in the Philadelphia area.
She graduated from Cardinal Dougherty High School, Philadelphia.
Relvas received the Lawrence Lennon Award for Outstanding Service and Achievement in Psychology. She earned a bachelor of science, summa cum laude, in psychology with a minor in theatre.
Relvas was president of the Psi Chi Honor Society, member of the Alpha Sigma Nu Honor Society and the Psychology Club and was named to "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges." She was a research assistant and teaching assistant in three psychology courses and presented a research poster at the Eastern Psychological Association in Pittsburgh.
Relvas completed service learning at the Gino J. Merli Veteran's Center and was a member of the University Players and the University Players' Council.
Relvas plans to seek employment while pursuing an Ed.S. in school psychology.
She graduated from St. Basil Academy, Jenkintown.
