Local Residents Recognized for Academic Achievement at University of Scranton Commencement

SCRANTON, PA (06/18/2012)(readMedia)-- Abbe R. Clark, Southold, and Angela Rose Negri, Miller Place, were among the 65 students honored by The University of Scranton during its undergraduate Class Night ceremony. The Jesuit university awarded outstanding members of the Class of 2012 for academic achievement and service.

Clark was the recipient ex aequo of the Excellence in Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology Award. She also received a prestigious national Goldwater Scholarship and was named a Marshall Scholarship National Finalist. She earned a bachelor of science, summa cum laude, in biochemistry, cell and molecular biology and graduated from the University's Honors Program.

Clark was member of the Alpha Lambda Delta, Beta Beta Beta, Phi Lambda Upsilon and Alpha Sigma Nu honor societies, the biology club, the Health Professions Organization and served as president of the chemistry club. She tutored students in biology and chemistry at the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence. She was named to "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges."

Clark was the recipient of the Laboratory of Molecular Biology International Scholarship Finalist from the University of Cambridge and the Ellen Miller Casey Award for research in the Honors Program at Scranton.

Clark pursue a Ph.D. in Biomedical and Biological Sciences at Harvard University.

She graduated from Southold High School, Southold, N.Y.

Negri received the Excellence in Marketing Award. She earned a bachelor of science, magna cum laude, in marketing with a double minor in operations management and Italian and graduated from the Business Leadership Honors Program.

Negri was a member of Alpha Sigma Nu, Beta Gamma Sigma and Omega Beta Sigma honor societies as well as the Italian Society and the International Business Club. She was a peer educator in the Coalition of Peer Educators.

Negri will work as a project coordinator in human resources at Arnold Worldwide in New York City.

She graduated from Miller Place High School, Miller Place, N.Y.
