Local Student Mary Gooding Earns Multiple Prizes at Wells College

Gooding Selected for Prizes in Music and Physics

AURORA , NY (06/24/2010)(readMedia)-- Mary Gooding, of Penfield, has earned 2010 Wells College Margaret Schwartz Music Prize, The Wells Women in Science Prize, and the Wood Prize in Physics and Its Application. Gooding recently graduated from Wells this past May with a degree in physics.

The Margaret Schwartz Music Prize is awarded to a member of the graduating class for his or her outstanding work in music.

The Wells Women in Science Prize is awarded to a member of the graduating class who has done outstanding work in at least two of the sciences, and who has demonstrated an interest in and ability for a career in graduate work and research, and/or teaching, together with a commitment to the advancement of women in science.

The Wood Prize in Physics and Its Applications is awarded to a member of the graduating class who has shown outstanding interest and ability in physics or its application to closely related disciplines, particularly engineering. The prize was established in 2004 in memory of Wells Seminarians Conelia Louse Woods Conger 1873 and her sister Mary Della 1873, and Cornelia's daughter Alice DeCamp Conger Fell 1911, who attended Wells College.
