Local Volunteers Prepare International Medical Supply Shipments
Volunteers will disassemble dozens of donated prosthetic limbs for use in underserved global regions
NORFOLK, VA (09/08/2010)(readMedia)-- Physicians for Peace's Walking Free program provides education and training to medical professionals involved in the treatment of amputees, fitting patients with prostheses, providing physical rehabilitation and establishing sustainable prosthetic and rehabilitation centers in underserved regions. Using elbow grease and wrenches, the Day of Caring volunteers will help disassemble prosthetic limbs donated to Physicians for Peace by individuals and organizations. Because the prostheses are in good condition, the valuable components will be used to make new prostheses for amputees who could not otherwise afford them in countries such as the Philippines, the Dominican Republic and Haiti.
