Local student directing Gospel Choir at Ohio's Malone University

CANTON , OH (11/02/2012)(readMedia)-- The Malone University gospel choir – One Voice – will perform in concert Saturday, November 17 from 6:30 – 8 p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of the Johnson Center for Worship and the Fine Arts, located on the campus at 2600 Cleveland Avenue N.W. in Canton. The concert – under the direction of Darius McBride, a sophomore music education major from Henrietta, New York; with music from Samson Toe, a senior music education major from Canton -- is free and open to the public.
The concert is being held in conjunction with the 40th anniversary celebration of the first Black Student Union/multicultural student group on Malone's campus. Administrators recently discovered in the 120 year-old-university's archives documentation showing the admittance of its first student of color taking place in the fall of 1900.
Malone University, a Christian university for the arts, sciences, and professions in the liberal arts tradition, affiliated with the Evangelical Friends Church, awards both undergraduate and graduate degrees in more than 100 academic programs.
