CANTON , OH (02/12/2013)(readMedia)-- The Malone University forensics team uses the gift of speech to glorify God. Students research, write, and present speeches and interpretive performances on current and relevant topics, competing against other colleges and universities. Students work toward creating four different events to develop specific speaking skills. They compete with the same selections for the academic year. There are 11 different event categories and awards are given to the top 6 finishers in each event.
Local students who have received top honors include:
• Casey Stevens, a junior communication arts major from Berlin Center, Ohio. Stevens took 4th place at the Muskingum University tournament in Prose Interpretation based on the book The Pregnancy Project, where a high school girl fakes a pregnancy to gauge the reactions of her community.
She also took 5th place at the Liberty University tournament in Duo Interpretation that humorously investigates the still-existing societal prejudice against blondes and the need to stop stereotyping others.
And she took 3rd place at the Morgan State University tournament in After Dinner Speaking on the current economic impact and societal obsession with Extreme Couponing, as well as 6th place in Prose with The Pregnancy Project.
