Longest Drive Begins at Lexus of Watertown

Boston-area Lexus Dealer Sponsors Golf Event for Brain Injury Association of Massachusetts

BOSTON, MASS (06/10/2010)(readMedia)-- Lexus of Watertown, a leading national Lexus dealer serving Greater Boston Lexus owners, is again stepping up to support the local community by sponsoring the Longest Drive competition at the Eighth Annual Brain Injury Association (BIA) of Massachusetts National Golf Club Tournament. The two-day event will be held for the second consecutive year at Newport National Golf Club in Newport, Rhode Island on June 27 and 28.

Lexus of Watertown will announce the Longest Drive prize as the event date nears, but those hoping to win will need to bring their best game; recent distances for Longest Drive were 325 yards for men and 245 yards for women.

"I'm very happy to have Lexus of Watertown involved-their generosity sets a great example for other area businesses looking to give back to their community," said Dave Schultz, organizer of the event.

"We are always looking for ways to donate to worthy causes in the region, and we are proud to support the excellent work done by the Brain Injury Association of Massachusetts, " said Vincent Liuzzi, General Manager of Lexus of Watertown. "We are strong believers in their KEYS program, which teaches kids about the consequences of dangerous driving. Young drivers need to understand that the safety features in modern cars are not a license to be reckless."

Incorporated in 1982 as an affiliate of the Brain Injury Association of America, the BIA of Massachusetts provides direct support to people with brain injuries and their families. The group is active in educating the public, not only about the impact of brain injuries, but how best to prevent them, especially those caused by auto accidents.

Lexus is an industry leader in safety innovation, a position it earned through models like the 2010 Lexus RX, named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and the new Lexus CT 200h, the first hybrid in its class to offer a Pre-Crash Safety system. The Pre-Crash Safety system is a groundbreaking feature that uses built-in radar to measure the distance between cars and assist the driver in preventing accidents.

"Our support of BIA reflects the strong commitment to safety that we have as a Greater Boston Lexus dealer," Liuzzi said. "People talk about Lexus performance and luxury, but our cars are also well ahead of the industry in safety features."

Along with the Longest Drive competition sponsored by Lexus, the event will include a raffle, a silent auction and a hole-in-one competition. Registrants will have a chance to win exotic trips, including an eight-night trip to Italy for four, which includes a tour of Italy's wine country.
