Furrer was inducted to the Oswego Athletic Hall of Fame during a ceremony in the Hewitt Union ballroom on the SUNY Oswego campus.
Furrer wrestled from 1961 to 1965, serving as captain for two years. Furrer was a SUNY Athletic Conference champion in the 130-pound weight class for three years, a Section 8 champion in 1961 and undefeated in 44 dual meets for SUNY Oswego. He qualified for the NCAA tournament in 1964 and 1965.
"I'd like to thank Oswego and (longtime wrestling coach) Jim Howard," Furrer said. "The school has grown a lot bigger, but it is still a beautiful Oswego."
A science teacher for three decades, Furrer was a coach for more than 25 years and served as a wrestling referee in Nassau and Suffolk counties for 15 years.
