Chief Warrant Officer Heather Ruter receives Meritorious Service Medal by Maj. Gen. Patrick Murphy Feb. 13.

LATHAM, NY (02/17/2015)(readMedia)-- New York Army National Guard Chief Warrant Officer 3 Heather Ruter received the U.S. Army Meritorious Service Medal by Maj. Gen. Patrick Murphy, New York National Guard Adjutant General during a farewell ceremony here February 13.

Ruter, of Loudonville, New York, received the award for outstanding performance in support of equal opportunity and sexual assault prevention and response initiatives over the past seven years.

Ruter served as the National Guard's Equal Employment Manager from September, 2008 to February 2015.

She will mobilize and deploy this spring to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba with members of the 42nd Infantry Division Headquarters, as the detachment's personnel officer.

Upon her return from deployment in early 2016, she will assume the role of the New York National Guard's Warrant Officer Recruiter.
