Louisville native Gracie Mullins named Lake Forest College Athlete of the Week

The sophomore women's tennis player claimed a conference title at second doubles.

LAKE FOREST, IL (10/24/2012)(readMedia)-- Lake Forest College women's tennis player Gracie Mullins (Louisville, Ky./Louisville Collegiate) was named the Forester Athlete of the Week recently for her performance at the Midwest Conference Championships on Sunday, Oct. 14

Mullins, a sophomore, was 4-0 in doubles and singles play combined during the MWC Team Championship Tournament on Friday. She and freshman Grace Dowling won 8-4 at #2 doubles against St. Norbert College in the semifinals and also defeated the #2 team from Grinnell College 8-5 in the title match. A 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) victory by Mullins at #5 singles clinched the Foresters' victory over St. Norbert and she came from behind to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 to provide Lake Forest's only singles point against Grinnell.

The three position doubles tournament were played on Saturday and Mullins and Dowling captured a conference championship at #2. They posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Illinois College in the quarterfinals and a 7-5, 6-3 triumph over Carroll University in the semifinals. A rematch with Grinnell was next and the Forester duo prevailed again 6-4, 6-3.

Mullins closed out the weekend by reaching the semifinals at #5 in Sunday's singles tournaments. She routed the #5 player from Illinois College 6-0, 6-1 in her first match but fell 6-2, 6-3 to Grinnell in the semifinal round.

Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays.
