Low Income Community Receiving Free Tax Prep Assistance

Volunteers needed to help give neighbors a lift at Booker T. Washington Community Center

STAUNTON, VA (11/05/2010)(readMedia)-- Request for Volunteers

The EITC Coalition of Valley CAPSAW will be operating a VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) site providing free tax preparation during the 2011 tax season for low to moderate income families. The goal of this program is to help our working families maximize their tax benefits to improve their financial health. The program will operate Thursday evenings from 5:00 to 8:00 at the Booker T. Washington Center in Staunton from January 27 until April 14. The Coalition are currently recruiting volunteers to train with the IRS to provide these services. Training will be held in December. Only simple tax returns (no special forms or itemizing) will be prepared. Volunteers who are unable to attend the on-site training will be able to receive their training and certification through an on-line IRS program.

If anyone is interested in helping with this program 1 or 2 Thursday evenings, that would be GREAT! To volunteer or further information, please contact Deb Koons at eitccapsaw@gmail.com or 448-4913.
