Luther junior Flak to present violin recital

DECORAH, IA (03/22/2013)(readMedia)-- Kristen Flak, a Luther College junior from Decorah, Iowa, will perform a violin recital at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 6, in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Music Hall on the Luther campus.

Flak, the daughter of Duane and Lorna Flak of Decorah, is majoring in music at Luther. She is a 2010 graduate of Decorah High School.

Flak will perform works by Béla Bartók, Bach, Dmitri Kabalevsky and Mozart.

A reception will follow the performance. Both the recital and reception are open to the public with no charge for admission.

Flak is a student of Tarn Travers, Luther visiting instructor in music. She will be accompanied by Luther senior Jordan Buchholtz. Her recital partner is Lauren Benish, Luther junior.

Luther is home to one of the largest collegiate music programs in the nation with six choirs, three orchestras, three bands, two jazz bands and nearly 1,000 student musicians.

Luther students participate in large ensembles, faculty-coached chamber groups, private lessons and master classes. More than 350 music majors study music theory, ear training, history, education, composition, church music and performance.
