Luther junior Libbey to present soprano recital

DECORAH, IA (02/19/2013)(readMedia)-- Vanessa Libbey, a Luther College junior from Wauwatosa, Wis., will perform a soprano vocal recital at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, March 3 in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Music Hall on the Luther campus.
Libbey, the daughter of Greg and Blythe Libbey of Wauwatosa, is majoring in music at Luther. She is a 2010 graduate of Wauwatosa East High School.
Libbey will perform works by Handel, Hugo Wolf, Georges Bizet, Benjamin Britten and Andrew Thomas.
A reception will follow the performance. Both the recital and reception are open to the public with no charge for admission.
Libbey is a student of Karen Kanakis, Luther associate professor of music, and Jessica Paul, Luther professor of music. She will be accompanied by Du Huang, Luther associate professor of music, and Luther junior Esme Wong. Her recital partner is Evan Mitchell, Luther junior.
Luther is home to one of the largest collegiate music programs in the nation with six choirs, three orchestras, three bands, two jazz bands and nearly 1,000 student musicians.
Luther students participate in large ensembles, faculty-coached chamber groups, private lessons and master classes. More than 350 music majors study music theory, ear training, history, education, composition, church music and performance.
