Luther senior Robinson to present bassoon recital

DECORAH, IA (10/10/2013)(readMedia)-- Alex Robinson, a Luther College senior from Apple Valley, Minn., will perform a bassoon recital at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Music Hall on the Luther campus.

Robinson, the daughter of Andrew Robinson and Katie Hoffer of Apple Valley, is majoring in music at Luther. She is a 2010 graduate of Apple Valley High School.

Robinson will perform songs by Carl Maria von Weber, Willson Osborne, Alvin Etler and Jacques Ibert.

A reception will follow the performance. Both the recital and reception are open to the public with no charge for admission.

Robinson is a student of Helen James, Luther adjunct faculty in music. She will be assisted on the recital by Luther seniors Bobby Ragoonanan, piano and Willy Leafblad, oboe, and Luther junior Mariah Crotty, clarinet.

Luther is home to one of the largest collegiate music programs in the nation with six choirs, three orchestras, three bands, two jazz bands and nearly 1,000 student musicians.

Luther students participate in large ensembles, faculty-coached chamber groups, private lessons and master classes. More than 350 music majors study music theory, ear training, history, education, composition, church music and performance.
