Luther senior Shelia Sinha to be honored at Social Work Graduation Celebration May 18
DECORAH, IA (05/17/2013)(readMedia)-- Shelia Sinha of Minneapolis, Minn., was honored at the Luther College Social Work Graduation Celebration Saturday, May 18 on the Luther College campus.
Sinha, the daughter of Dorothy and Akhouri Sinha of Minneapolis, is majoring in social work at Luther. She is a 2009 graduate of the Academy of Holy Angels.
The annual celebration highlights the role and mission of the social worker and includes a pinning ceremony where each graduates receive their social work professional pin.
During her time at Luther, Sinha worked at Hennepin County Home School and Juvenile Detention Center in Minneapolis. She also spent time as an intern in Decorah working for Helping Services of Northeast Iowa, facilitating grant writing and event planning. During the fall of 2012, Sinha conducted her senior paper research on the connection between self-esteem and cyber bullying.
The primary objective of the social work major at Luther is to prepare students for employment in beginning generalist social work practice. The Luther social work program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education and is graduating 11 seniors in the 2013 class.
