Luzerne County Residents Recognized at University of Scranton Commencement

SCRANTON, PA (06/19/2012)(readMedia)-- Robert Anthony Gadomski, Plains, David Lawrence Hovey, Forty Fort, Karen Marie Hudzinski, Pittston, Julieann Ostroski, Harding, Ronald Woznock, Jr., Wilkes-Barre, and Rosemary Ann Shaver and Lauren Nicole Weaver, Shavertown, were among the 65 students honored by The University of Scranton during its undergraduate Class Night ceremony. The Jesuit university awarded outstanding members of the Class of 2012 for academic achievement and service.

Gadomski received the Lawrence E. Mann Award. The award is presented to the senior who exhibited extraordinary involvement in student activities in a refined, outgoing and kind manner. He earned a bachelor of science, magna cum laude, in neuroscience with minors in biochemistry and English and graduated from the Honors Program.

Gadomski contributed to Leaders for a Brighter Scranton and the Christian Life Community, served as an orientation assistant and was involved with the Scranton Emerging Leaders I and II, first as a participant and then as a facilitator. He also started the Examen on campus, a weekly gather of students for prayer and reflection, and participated in and led a number of retreats and programs organized by University Ministries.

Gadomski went on a service trip to Washington, D.C. to work with the homeless and to Guyana to work with orphans and geriatrics. He plans to travel to Ecuador on another service trip this summer.

Gadomski will spend a year in service at the Capuchin Youth and Family Ministry at Garrison, N.Y. He will begin medical school at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in the fall of 2013.

Hovey received the Excellence in Counseling and Human Services Award. He earned a bachelor of science, summa cum laude, in counseling and human services with a minor in theology.

Hovey was a member of Alpha Sigma Nu, Theta Alpha Kappa and Tau Upsilon Alpha honor societies and was named to "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges." Hovey had leadership roles with University Ministries, orientation, Scranton Emerging Leaders and The University Programming Board.

Hovey will continue his studies in community counseling at the University.

He graduated from Wyoming Valley West High School, Plymouth

Hudzinski received the Excellence in Psychology Award. She earned a bachelor of science, magna cum laude, in psychology with a minor in Spanish and graduated from the Honors Program.

Hudzinski was a member of the Psi Chi Honor Society and was named to "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges." She was also a member of the Psychology Club and the Association for Psychological Student Caucus, a research assistant in the psychology department and a teaching assistant for various psychology courses.

Hudzinski received a President's Fellowship for Summer Research and presented at local and regional psychology conferences.

Hudzinski plans to obtain a master's degree in consumer/industrial research in psychology at Cleveland State University to pursue a career in marketing research.

She graduated from Scranton Preparatory School, Scranton.

Ostroski received the Excellence in Nursing Award . She earned a bachelor of science, summa cum laude, in nursing.

Ostroski was a member of the Alpha Sigma Nu and Sigma Theta Tau honor societies as well as the Student Nurses Association. She was a faculty research assistant, a peer tutor and an undergraduate teaching assistant for anatomy and physiology. She participated in a service trip to Savannah, Ga., and volunteered at the St. Joseph's Center.

Ostroski plans to be employed in the Philadelphia area and will later pursue her master and doctorate degrees in nursing.

She graduated from Pittston Area High School, Scranton.

Woznock received the Excellence in Accounting Award. He earned a bachelor of science, summa cum laude, with a double major in accounting and finance and graduated from the Business Leadership Program.

Woznock was a member of the Omnicron Delta Epsilon Honor Society and the Kania School of Management Business Club Student Services Committee, president of the Society of Accounting Students and was named to "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges."

Woznock will be employed as a staff accountant in the audit practice of Parente Beard starting in September.

He graduated from E.I. Meyers High School, Wilkes-Barre.

Shaver received the Prof. Frank C. Brown Award for Excellence in History and the Prof. Timothy H. Scully Award for Excellence in Political Science. She earned a bachelor of arts, summa cum laude, in history and political science with a minor in theology/religious studies and a peace and justice concentration and graduated from the Honors Program.

Shaver was a member of the Alpha Sigma Nu, Alpha Lambda Delta, Phi Alpha Theta, Phi Sigma Alpha, Pi Gamma Mu and Theta Alpha Kappa honor societies. She was named to "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges" and was a member of the Royal Historical Society, Environmentally Concerned Organization and Political Society.

Shaver was a Scully Scholar and the Editor-in-Chief of the Aquinas, received the Library Research Award and interned with Clean Water Action.

Shaver will perform a year of service through AmeriCorps and then attend graduate school.

She graduated from Dallas High School, Dallas.

Weaver received the Excellence in Health Administration Award. She earned a bachelor of science, summa cum laude, in health administration with a minor in business.

Weaver was a member of the Omega Beta Sigma Honor Society and president of the Health Administration Society.

Weaver plans to work for the GFK Group in East Hanover, N.J., then pursue an MBA.

She graduated from Holy Redeemer High School, Wilkes-Barre.
