Madeline Friend, NAU Junior of Flagstaff, Selected as Recipient in Goldwater and Udall National Scholarships

FLAGSTAFF, AZ (04/02/2013)(readMedia)-- Madeline Friend was selected as an Honorable Mention recipient in both the Goldwater and the Udall national scholarship competitions. These are two of the most prestigious nationwide awards available to undergraduates. The Barry Goldwater Foundation awarded 271 scholarships and 200 Honorable Mentions for the 2013-2014 academic year. Awardees were selected on the basis of academic merit from a field of 1,107 students nominated by their faculty. The Udall Foundation awarded 50 scholarships and 50 Honorable Mentions to college sophomores and juniors committed to careers related to the environment, tribal public policy, or Native American Healthcare. The Udall Foundation says Friend's recognition speaks to her "tremendous commitment and potential."

Madeline is a junior at Northern Arizona University in the innovative Global Science and Engineering Program (GSEP) with a double major in Environmental Science and Spanish.
