Mankato Native Hannah Miller Selected as Peace Prize Forum Scholar

SIOUX FALLS, SD (02/18/2010)(readMedia)-- Augustana College (Sioux Falls, SD) student Hannah Miller from Mankato, MN, has been selected as 2010 Peace Prize Forum Scholars.

The Peace Prize Forum Scholars program is sponsored by the Nobel Peace Prize Forum consortium comprised of Augustana College, Augsburg College, Concordia College (Moorhead), Luther College, and St. Olaf College. Two students from each of the participating colleges are awarded a six-week educational experience in Oslo, Norway, designed to deepen their understanding of issues related to peace, justice, democracy, and human rights.

Miller and fellow Augustana classmate Lindsey Olson (Luverne, MN) will be introduced at the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize Forum to be held March 5-6 at Augsburg College in Minneapolis, Minn. During the six-week seminar at the University of Olso's International Summer School, the winning scholars will work on projects they will be asked to present at the 2011 Nobel Peace Prize Forum.

Upon returning to their respective campuses, the 10 scholars will continue to communicate and find ways to build on the Oslo experience together. They will also be expected to play a leadership role in peace activities on their campuses, and assist with the upcoming Nobel Peace Prize Forum.

Miller, a sophomore, is majoring in elementary education and special education. Miller is active in Campus Ministry and served as chair of a fund-raiser benefiting water drilling on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and Charity: water. She is a co-leader of "Shalom," a chapel outreach team, and served on the central Committee for Faith Fest. She also participates in Augustana FRIENDSLINK, plays in the Augustana Band, and spent the January term interning in a Slovakian classroom. She is the daughter of Jodie and Tim Miller.
