MARIETTA, OHIO (10/11/2018) During an executive session on Thursday, Oct. 11th, Marietta College's Board of Trustees unanimously approved a two-year contract extension for President William N. Ruud.

Ruud, who is the 19th President since Marietta was founded in 1835, will be with the College through 2022.

"The Board is pleased with the direction of the College and the leadership of President Ruud, and much of our recent success in enrollment and fundraising are directly related to him, the strong senior leadership team he has assembled, and the positive attitude he has engendered across the campus," said Board Chair George Fenton. "We are pleased that President Ruud and his wife, Judy, are excited to be a part of the Marietta College community and the Marietta community for even longer than his original contract."

Ruud, who joined Marietta College on July 1, 2016, is in his third year of a four-year contract. With the College in the quiet phase of a comprehensive capital campaign, the Board believed it was important to maintain a continuity in leadership.

"I am excited about continuing to serve as president at Marietta College through 2022," Ruud said. "I am extremely proud of the accomplishments we have enjoyed since I arrived, and I know we will continue to improve and advance the College and its reputation. It's also important over the next four years that we enhance our campus to include a state-of-the-art student center, while also growing our enrollment and endowment to include more financial support for our students and faculty."

Prior to joining Marietta, Ruud was president at the University of Northern Iowa for three years and president at Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania for six years.

Located in Marietta, Ohio, at the confluence of the Muskingum and Ohio rivers, Marietta College is a four-year liberal arts college. Tracing its roots to the Muskingum Academy back in 1797, the College was officially chartered in 1835. Today Marietta College serves a body of 1,200 full-time students. The College offers 49 majors and is consistently ranked as one of the top regional comprehensive colleges by U.S. News & World Report and The Princeton Review, as well as one of the nation's best by Forbes.com. Marietta was selected seventh in the nation according to the Brookings Institution's rankings of colleges by their highest value added, regardless of major.
