ARLINGTON, VA (03/03/2010)(readMedia)-- Marymount junior guard Amanda Billy was named to the First Team All Capital Athletic Conference squad in women's basketball.
The Syracuse native and former standout at Christian Brothers Academy, won the all conference honor for the first time in her career.
She leads the CAC in made three-pointers this season and is seventh in the nation with 3.1 made per game. Currently she has 84 triples, which smashed the Marymount single season record which was 73. Because the Saints are still playing in the NCAA tournament, she will have a chance to increase that number.
Billy averages 12.9 points per game, second on the Saints team and seventh in the conference. She is third in the conference in three-point field goal percentage (.392). She also is second on the team in free-throw percentage, hitting on 75.5 percent.
The Saints had a preview in the first game of the season on what was to come with Billy's outside shooting. She set a new conference and Marymount single game record for three-pointers with eight. And she has hit at least one in all but one of the Saints' 27 games to date.
"Amanda is such a key to our success this year," said head coach Bill Finney. "The fans love to see her hit the threes and she has range from whenever she steps into the gym but her value comes also from her keen knowledge of the game and doing the little things right."
The Saints are currently 26-1 and won their conference championship last weekend, gaining an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Marymount will host first and second round games of the NCAA Division III tournament this weekend beginning with the Saints hosting Scranton at 7 pm on Friday.
