ARLINGTON, VA (04/26/2010)(readMedia)-- Junior women's basketball player Amanda Billy was named the Female Athletes of the Year for Marymount University as announced at the student-athlete's annual banquet.

Billy, a starting guard on the team which finished 28-2 and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16, was the team's leading scorer and was second in the nation in three-pointers made this season. She hit 95 long-range shots which was a new record for Marymount and the Capital Athletic Conference. She also set new conference and school records for three-pointers in a game – with eight in the opening game of the season.  She was a First Team All Conference honoree and Second Team All State.

The Syracuse native also played in every game this season and as head coach Bill Finney pointed out in presenting the award was probably the only player who ran every sprint in every practice this season – on a team that had more than its fair share of injuries this season. In all, the sprints totalled more than 75 miles from October 15 through the end of the season in March.

Billy also won the annual team Coach's Award which is selected by the coaching staff to the student-athlete who made the greatest contribution to the team.  Billy is also an outstanding student as she was  selected to the Second Team District Academic All American team and is a three-time Capital Athletic Conference Scholar Athlete.
