ARLINGTON, VA (03/03/2010)(readMedia)-- Marymount senior forward Kathleen Brown was named to the Second Team All Capital Athletic Conference squad in women's basketball.
For Brown, who played her high school ball at Walt Whitman, this marks the third consecutive year that she has won all conference honors. She was First Team in 2009 and 2008.
Brown, who missed eight games this season with injuries, came back to the Saints at the end of first semester. After scoring just four points in five minutes in her first game back, she has hit in double figures in 13 games and leads the team in scoring with 13.1 points per game. She also is averaging 6.6 rebounds, and 0.9 blocks per game.
Though she cannot appear in conference statistical rankings until she plays in 75 percent of the games, she would be among the leads in several categories as she now stands including leading in field goal percentage (.632), sixth scoring, 11th in rebounding and third in free-throw percentage (.745).
"Kathleen has proven herself over the years as a great player," said head coach Bill Finney. "She had to face the struggle of coming back from an injury and finding ways to help her team – she's really worked hard to do that this year."
Brown was an honorable mention All American last season and was named a pre-season All American for this year. She also was MVP of the MU Holiday Classic in January.
She is among the Marymount career leaders in points and rebounds and is still moving up the charts. She is sixth all time in scoring with 1405 points and is eighth in rebounding with 762.
She will have a chance to increase all of her statistics as Marymount is still in-season. The Saints are currently 26-1 and won their conference championship last weekend, gaining an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Marymount will host first and second round games of the NCAA Division III tournament this weekend beginning with the Saints hosting Scranton at 7 pm on Friday.
