NEEDHAM, MA (02/10/2011)(readMedia)-- Mass High Tech, the journal of the New England high technology industry, has named Olin College graduate Mikell Taylor '06, currently a Systems Engineer at Bluefin Robotics Corporation in Quincy, Mass., as one of its 2011 "MHT Women to Watch."
The 22 women selected as honorees for the eighth annual award program are entrepreneurs, executives, team leaders, mentors, and community leaders, and are viewed as future leaders in their respective fields, including biotech, robotics, software, and "cleantech" industries. The program drew more than 100 nominations and this year's number of honorees has doubled.
"In the years that we have been selecting Women to Watch we have seen an encouraging trend. Many more New England women are appearing in leadership roles in startup companies, at the head of development teams in large companies and in investment firms," said Mass High Tech Publisher E. Douglas Banks.
Taylor graduated from Olin College as a member of its first class in 2006. She accepted a position with Bluefin Robotics, where she served as a design quality engineer and system engineer. She left Bluefin to join Heartland Robotics in 2008, where she served as member of the technical staff until December 2009. Taylor then returned to Bluefin Robotics as the lead engineer on the company's autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) projects. Her work involves high-level architecture design, design reviews and general technical management, as well as project management for some programs. In addition to her responsibilities at Bluefin, Taylor runs the planning committee for the Boston FIRST Robotics Competition Regional that takes place each spring, and remains very involved in events at Olin College.
Taylor will be profiled in the March 21 Mass High Tech issue and recognized at a breakfast event on March 23 at Boston's Seaport Hotel.
