Matthew Sherry Receives Skookum Award at Western New England University

SPRINGFIELD, MA (11/25/2013)(readMedia)-- Matthew Sherry of Ellicott City, Md., was recently named a recipient of the Skookum Award, an honor presented by Western New England University's Alumni Association. The Skookum is awarded to students who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in all their endeavors: academics, co-curricular activities, sports, and community service. "Skookum" is the Native American Chinook Indian word meaning "excellence." Sherry was one of 15 outstanding seniors receiving awards during ceremonies on the Springfield, Mass. campus.
Majoring in Electrical Engineering, Sherry is a member of the Mortar Board, Omicron Delta Kappa, Alpha Chi Sigma, Alpha Lambda Delta, and Tau Beta Pi honor societies. He is currently serving as President of Tau Beta Pi. He has served as a Peer Advisor for two years and is one of the top runners on the cross country team. He is also a member of the Math Center where he tutors students. Off campus, Sherry is involved in the local community having volunteered for the Gray House Carnival, the Children's Study Home, and Habitat for Humanity.
