Mature Subject Matter Introduced by Staunton Parks and Recreation
New revitalized senior programming section in upcoming brochure
STAUNTON, VA (03/31/2011)(readMedia)-- The Staunton Parks and Recreation Department will have four new sections in the Spring Summer 2011 Brochure. Attached is a draft version of the senior program section also know as "Mature Subject Matter". We just got tired of using the word senior and decided to use the "Mature Subject Matter" title to capture the attention of Staunton's hip and vibrant over 50 demographic. The results of the 2007 needs assessment and input from the ongoing virtual focus group provided the motivating force to create this new section of programs.
We have planned a special event just for seniors the entire week of May 23rd. In an effort to educate and stay connected to our over 50 population demographic, we have teamed up with the Staunton Public Library to bring a unique learning opportunity to Staunton. Social Media Blitz is a week-long special event happening at Staunton Public Library to introduce Facebook, Twitter and Social Media to Staunton's mature audience. We will conduct a total of 10 classes during the week and you are not going to believe this but..... they are FREE! This is a special event just for our community's 50+ crowd conducted in a very relaxed environment. Our instructor is a guru of sorts and presents the information in a basic geared down way so that the total beginner will feel comfortable. Anyone 50+ years who is interested in taking the 1-hour class should call the Staunton Parks and Recreation Department to sign-up as class space is limited. This will be the only time we will offer these classes for free so don't miss your chance to get connected to the World Wide Web via Social Media.
The Staunton Parks and Recreation Department will not be set up to accept class registrations from this brochure until the second week of April. However we will begin a class roster for the Social Media Blitz event. The on-line release date is April 11th while the print version should reach Staunton mailboxes on or around April 25th.
