McAlester's Blasengame receives two scholarships at East Central University

Makayla Blasengame, center of McAlester, was the recipient of the Tina Hope Davis Centennial Endowment and the Dr. Tim Green Centennial Education Scholarship during East Central University Department of Education's recent 2018 Spring Awards Luncheon. The Tina Hope Davis Scholarship is awarded to a junior, senior or graduate level student. The recipient must have maintained a cumulative 2.5 or above grade-point average and be a fulltime student. This scholarship was created by Tina's Legacy Committee. Davis attended ECU and earned her bachelor's degree in education in 1984 and, later in 1986, earned her master's degree in special education. Davis was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority and was a Tiger mascot for the cheerleading squad. The Dr. Tim Green Scholarship is awarded to an elementary education student who plans to become a reading specialist. If no education student qualifies, the next preference is given to a student planning on a coaching career. Green was a longtime member of the ECU community, serving first as a teacher in the Education Department and later as athletic director for several years. The scholarship was established by his family, friends and colleagues in his honor and memory. Pictured with Blasengame are Abby Phillips (left) and Donna Cox.
