Mechanical Engineering Students Present Research at Conference

Wilkes University assistant professor of physics Del Lucent and mechanical engineering students, Michael O'Brien of Quakertown, Pa., and Daniel Sales of Laflin, Pa., attended the annual meeting of the Biophysical Society, held Feb. 17-21, 2018, in San Francisco, Calif. The students presented their poster and data on topological data analysis of protein dynamics using persistent homology. The project uses a mathematical technique, topological data analysis, to look for patterns in large simulations of protein folding. Protein folding is an action that occurs on the cellular level and analyzing it can be used to research treatments for a variety of disorders.
