Informational picket/rally - Friday, April 17 at 5:30 p.m., Gideon Putnam Hotel, Saratoga State Park

Union leaders and members will protest against the state layoffs proposed by Gov. David Paterson as he speaks at the New York State Democratic Rural Conference.

The unions will focus on avoiding layoffs and saving the state workforce, in addition to sending a message to the governor there are better ways to reduce costs that won't damage the services New Yorkers rely on.

PEF is the state's largest white-collar labor union, representing approximately 58,000 professional, scientific and technical employees of New York state government agencies.

CSEA is New York's leading union representing 70,000 State Executive Branch employees among the union's nearly 300,000 members.
