Kick Off For Week-Long Free Fishing Events at Six Mile Waterworks in Albany
ALBANY, NY (04/09/2009)(readMedia)-- On Friday, April 10 at 2 p.m., the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) will be stocking Six Mile Waterworks with approximately 1,900 catchable size rainbow trout in preparation for a week-long free fishing program. DEC Regional Director Gene Kelly will be joined by City of Albany Mayor Jerry Jennings and City of Albany Water Commissioner Robert Cross along with various DEC Bureau of Fisheries Staff for the stocking of the Lake.
In conjunction with spring recess for Capital District schools, DEC's I FISH NY Program will conduct a free youth fishing assistance program the week after stocking to run from everyday from April 13 - April 17 from approximately 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. DEC Bureau of Fisheries staff will be on hand all week to assist with fishing.
Six Mile Waterworks is home to a variety of freshwater fish species including: largemouth bass, sunfish, yellow perch, chain pickerel, brown bullhead and most recently, rainbow trout.
