New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania Banking Officials Sign a Historic Regional Document on April 15
NEW YORK, NY (04/14/2008)(readMedia)-- New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance (DOBI), New York State Banking Department and Pennsylvania Department of Banking officials will gather in Jersey City and New York City on Tuesday, April 15, to sign the Tri-State Compact that will enhance the financial services industry in the greater New York Metropolitan Region. The new agreement will allow banks in the three states to expand while maintaining their home charters.
The signing is comprised of two events. The first event will take place at 10:30 a.m. at the historic corporate offices of The Provident Bank in Jersey City. The Provident is New Jersey’s oldest state chartered bank. This will be followed by an event sponsored by the New York State Banking Department at 12:30 p.m. at the Museum of American Finance, which is located in the former Bank of New York headquarters building. The Bank of New York was founded by Alexander Hamilton in 1784, making it the first bank in the United States. The event will be held in the room that was once Alexander Hamilton’s office.
