American Red Cross and 36 Law-enforcement Agencies Launch Blood-Drive Competition
LOS ANGELES, CA (01/25/2008)(readMedia)-- On Monday, January 28, 11 a.m., the American Red Cross and representatives from 17 of the nearly 40 participating law-enforcement agencies will host a press conference at the Fletcher Bowron Triforium to “kick off” the 2nd Annual Battle of the Badges Blood Drive. Immediately following the press conference, chiefs and agency directors will show support for the blood drive by being the first to donate blood.
The Battle of the Badges Blood Drive, sponsored by the U. S. Probation Office Central District of California, is a friendly competition between Federal, State and local law-enforcement agencies, wherein all badge-carrying personnel, their family and friends have an opportunity to positively impact our community by participating in a friendly competition to see which agency can donate the most blood and ultimately save the most lives.

Why: | The American Red Cross must collect 1,500 units of blood everyday to meet the needs | ||
of our local hospital patients; unfortunately, less than 3% of the Southern California population donates blood. Blood supplies typically fall to critically low levels during the winter months. The agencies participating in this friendly competition blood drive hope to have a substantial impact on the availability of blood for accident victims, cancer patients, premature babies and burn patients in Southern California. | |||
