'Meet Your Neighbors Night' Aims to Forge Bonds Between Students, Residents

PLATTSBURGH, NY (09/02/2009)(readMedia)-- The Plattsburgh Campus/City Coalition is providing an opportunity for college students and members of the Plattsburgh community to get to know one another during a "Meet Your Neighbors Night."

This free event will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9. at four fraternity houses in the city: the Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity at 23 Draper Ave.; the Alpha Chi Rho Fraternity at 147 Brinkerhoff St.; the Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity at 70 Broad St.; and the Pi Alpha Nu Fraternity at 122 Court St. In the event of rain, the celebrations will be held in the same locations on Wednesday, Sept. 16, from 6 to 8 p.m.

The celebrations at each location will feature food provided by Chartwells; entertainment, crafts and activities for children provided by the hosting fraternities and the Center for Fraternity and Sorority Life; information about community-wide events; and more. In addition, Plattsburgh firefighters will be on hand distributing information about fire prevention, and city officials will also be present.

"We're having this night so that the City of Plattsburgh residents and SUNY Plattsburgh students can realize how they benefit from one another. The celebrations will provide a chance to have simple conversations that will lead to positive relationships that will last throughout the year," said Mike White, SUNY Plattsburgh junior and chair for the Campus/City Coalition.

To invite neighbors to this event and to raise awareness of other efforts, coalition members, including students and city officials, will go door to door on Sunday, Sept. 6.

The event is sponsored by the hosting fraternities, College Auxiliary Services, the Center for Fraternity and Sorority Life and the Campus/City Coalition.
