MILWAUKEE, WI (11/21/2011)(readMedia)-- Melanie Watruba, of De Pere, Wis., graduated from Milwaukee School of Engineering on Nov. 19, 2011. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. Watruba also received the Alumni Association Award for Student Achievement. The award is given to a student who has made time in his or her hectic schedule to serve as a leader in university and community activities in addition to achieving academic excellence. Recipients are first nominated by faculty members in their respective academic departments and then the entire graduating class selects from among its peers the student who is most deserving of this prestigious award.
While at MSOE, Watruba was very active within the nursing community. She was treasurer of MSOE's Student Nurses Association and a member of the School of Nursing Honor Society and Student Nurses Advisory Committee. In addition to the hard work she put forth on campus and in the classroom, Watruba worked as a patient care assistant at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee as well as a certified nursing assistant at Rennes Health and Rehab Center in De Pere.
Watruba has vast clinical experience. She studied and worked at Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center, Waukesha Memorial's Mental Health Center, Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, and Repairers of the Breach where she specialized in several fields such as Neuro ICU, surgery, and obstetrics and gynecology.
Watruba intends to spend the next several weeks studying in preparation to take the state nursing boards and licensing exam. After that, she will begin full-time employment as a registered nurse at Froedtert Hospital.
