RALEIGH, NC (02/06/2013)(readMedia)-- William Peace University has announced that its theatre is scheduled to open its spring 2013 semester with the award-winning musical, Into the Woods, by author James Lapin, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. The performance is scheduled to run from Wednesday, Feb. 13 through Saturday, Feb. 16, and again from Wednesday, Feb. 20 through Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013 at Leggett Theatre. The production will begin at 7:30 p.m. each night.

Melissa Compton, a B.F.A. Musical Theater major, will perform as Cinderella's stepsister, "Florinda." Compton previously performed in William Peace Theatre's 2012 "Godspell" and "Cabaret" productions.

William Peace Theatre's performance of Into the Woods is directed by Jason Dula, Assistant Professor of Musical Theatre, with special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI) in New York, NY. Music and lyrics are directed by William Peace University's instructor of Music Theory, Jay Wright. Director Jason Dula's take on the famous musical: "On the surface Into the Woods is a cool 'mash up' of some classic fairy tale characters. However, it goes much deeper. This show represents so many struggles we face, the actions we sometimes take to get what we want, and the consequences of those actions. Into the Woods shows us what's on the other side of 'Happily Ever After'."

Theatre tickets are free to William Peace University students with ID and will be available in discounted rates for all other university students, staff, faculty and their families. Costs for the general public will be $20 for advance tickets. Tickets for shows can be purchased online at http://theatre.peace.edu/current-show/index.html.
