Mendelssohn Club Announces 105th Annual Spring Concert

DELMAR, NY (05/13/2014)(readMedia)-- The Mendelssohn Club of Albany will perform its traditional spring concert at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 16th in historic Chancellor's Hall in the New York State Education Building. The 105th annual spring concert – "Water Music" - will feature a range of water-themed songs in celebration of the 400th anniversary of the historic sailing ship "The Onrust," a Dutch ship that was the first yacht to be built in America, the first ship to be built in what is now New York State, and the first fur trading vessel built in America.

"We are very excited about our upcoming spring concert and our guest artists," said Mendelssohn Club president, Richard Hartnett. "The combination of a great program and our talented and very accomplished guest artists should provide a wonderful evening of music for our audience."

Joining the club as guest artists for the evening will be Jamcrackers, a dynamic trio named in honor of the river drivers who broke up log jams. These accomplished musicians bring a rare blend of humor history and musical spirit to their performances.

The New York State Education Building is located at 89 Washington Avenue in Albany. The entrance to Chancellor's Hall is located near the corner of North Hawk Street and Washington Avenue. Covered parking is available one block from the State Education Building.

About The Mendelssohn Club: A Capital Region tradition since 1909, the 65-voice male chorus is the area's longest continuously performing arts group. The club is composed of men from the Capital District, Hudson Valley and Berkshire regions, and performs a full range of male choral selections from around the world. The Mendelssohn Club is conducted by Jeffrey L. Vredenburg. Mr. Vredenburg is a graduate of the Crane School of Music, State University College at Potsdam, New York where he majored in Music Education, Voice, and Piano. His post-graduate education includes a Masters Degree in Curriculum & Instruction from the State University of New York in Albany and choral conducting seminars with Donald Neuen, Dale Warland, Robert Page, Gregg Smith, and Margaret Hillis. Pianist Michael Clement serves as the club's accompanist. Mr. Clement was trained at the Eastman School of Music, the University of Arizona, and the University of Southern California.
