Mendelssohn Club Announces Annual Spring Concert

From Camelot to Spamalot, "A Night on Broadway" on Friday, May 13

DELMAR, NY (05/03/2016)(readMedia)-- The Mendelssohn Club of Albany will perform its traditional spring concert at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 13th in historic Chancellor's Hall in the New York State Education Building. The club's annual spring concert – "A Night on Broadway" - will feature a range of Broadway classics and more recent favorites.

"From West Side Story to Oklahoma, we are very excited about the selection of great Broadway music for our upcoming spring concert," said Mendelssohn Club president, Dr. Frederick Eames. "The combination of an entertaining program and our very accomplished guest artists should provide a wonderful evening of music for our audience."

Joining the club as a guest artist for the evening will be Opera singer Irina Petrik. A graduate of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Petrik is a soprano who has performed with prestigious companies across the country.

Also performing as a guest artist will be Robert Dalton, a multi-talented singer and actor. Mr. Dalton studied musical theater at Boston Conservatory and has toured nationally and worked regionally in many productions, including The Sound of Music and Guys and Dolls.

In keeping with a Mendelssohn Club tradition, Albany's Tulip Queen and her court will be introduced at intermission.

The New York State Education Building is located at 89 Washington Avenue in Albany. The entrance to Chancellor's Hall is located near the corner of North Hawk Street and Washington Avenue. Covered parking is available one block from the State Education Building.

About The Mendelssohn Club: A Capital Region tradition since 1909, the 60-voice male chorus is the area's longest continuously performing arts group. The club is composed of men from the Capital District, Hudson Valley and Berkshire regions, and performs a full range of male choral selections from around the world. The Mendelssohn Club is conducted by Jeffrey L. Vredenburg. Mr. Vredenburg is a graduate of the Crane School of Music, State University College at Potsdam, New York where he majored in Music Education, Voice, and Piano. His post-graduate education includes a Masters Degree in Curriculum & Instruction from the State University of New York in Albany and choral conducting seminars with Donald Neuen, Dale Warland, Robert Page, Gregg Smith, and Margaret Hillis. Pianist Michael Clement serves as the club's accompanist. Mr. Clement was trained at the Eastman School of Music, the University of Arizona, and the University of Southern California.
