Mendelssohn Club Announces Annual Spring Concert

A Celebration of Life on Friday, May 19

DELMAR, NY (05/04/2017) (readMedia)-- The Mendelssohn Club of Albany will perform its traditional spring concert at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 19th in the New York State Education Building's historic Chancellor's Hall. The club's annual spring concert – "To Life" – will be a musical celebration of life.

"Our program will feature diverse musical selections that explore the wide range of emotions we experience throughout our lives," said Mendelssohn Club president, John Musacchio. "The combination of an entertaining program and our very accomplished guest artist should provide a wonderful evening of music for our audience."

Joining the club as the guest artist for the evening will be Michael Benedict Jazz Vibes. A graduate of the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam who also received a Master's Degree in Jazz Studies from the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, Michael Benedict has toured and recorded with many jazz luminaries. In addition to Jazz Vibes, Michael also leads three other jazz ensembles – BOPTITUDE, the Gary McFarland Legacy Ensemble and the Phil Allen/Michael Benedict Concert Jazz Band.

In keeping with a spring tradition, the club will introduce Albany's Tulip Queen and her court at intermission.

The New York State Education Building is located at 89 Washington Avenue in Albany. The entrance to Chancellor's Hall is near the corner of North Hawk Street and Washington Avenue. Covered parking is available one block from the State Education Building.

About The Mendelssohn Club: A Capital Region tradition since 1909, the 60-voice male chorus is the area's longest continuously performing arts group. The club is composed of men from the Capital District, Hudson Valley and Berkshire regions, and performs a full range of male choral selections from around the world. The Mendelssohn Club is conducted by Jeffrey L. Vredenburg. Mr. Vredenburg is a graduate of the Crane School of Music, State University College at Potsdam, New York where he majored in Music Education, Voice, and Piano. His post-graduate education includes a Masters Degree in Curriculum & Instruction from the State University of New York in Albany and choral conducting seminars with Donald Neuen, Dale Warland, Robert Page, Gregg Smith, and Margaret Hillis. Pianist Michael Clement serves as the club's accompanist. Mr. Clement was trained at the Eastman School of Music, the University of Arizona, and the University of Southern California.
