Mendelssohn Club Announces Annual Spring Concert

DELMAR, NY (05/08/2018) (readMedia)-- The Mendelssohn Club of Albany will perform its traditional spring concert at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 18th in historic Chancellor's Hall in the New York State Education Building.

"The program for the spring concert features a wide range of music that highlights our theme of travel and exploration," said Mendelssohn Club president, John Musacchio. "The club's entertaining program combined with our talented and very popular guest artist should provide a wonderful evening of music for our audience."

Colleen Pratt and Friends will join the club as the guest artist for the evening. Backed by a dynamic four-piece band, Colleen devotes her full, rich vocals to the swing and jazz idioms, but also sings contemporary ballads, pop and Motown.

In keeping with tradition, the club will introduce Albany's new Tulip Queen and her court at intermission. The club also will perform at the Albany Tulip Festival on Saturday, May 12.

The New York State Education Building is located at 89 Washington Avenue in Albany. The entrance to Chancellor's Hall is located near the corner of North Hawk Street and Washington Avenue. Covered parking is available one block from the State Education Building.

About The Mendelssohn Club: A Capital Region tradition since 1909, the 60-voice male chorus is the area's longest continuously performing arts group. The club is composed of men from the Capital District, Hudson Valley and Berkshire regions, and performs a full range of male choral selections from around the world. Jeffrey L. Vredenburg is The Mendelssohn Club's conductor. Mr. Vredenburg is a graduate of the Crane School of Music, State University College at Potsdam, New York where he majored in Music Education, Voice, and Piano. His post-graduate education includes a Masters Degree in Curriculum & Instruction from the State University of New York in Albany and choral conducting seminars with Donald Neuen, Dale Warland, Robert Page, Gregg Smith, and Margaret Hillis.

Pianist Michael Clement serves as the club's accompanist. Mr. Clement was trained at the Eastman School of Music, the University of Arizona, and the University of Southern California. Mr. Clement has performed concerts throughout the US, and has served as music director of Opera Excelsior, vocal coach at the College of Saint Rose, accompanist at Skidmore College, and music director of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Albany, New York.
